According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency on May 22, Hyundai Motor Co. announced on the same day that by 2020, all modern passenger cars will use environmentally friendly air-conditioning refrigerant R1234yf to contribute to the alleviation of global warming.

Previously, Hyundai used environmentally friendly refrigerants only in passenger cars listed in Europe, in order to meet the European Commission's standards for CO2 emissions.

The price of environmentally friendly air-conditioning refrigerant R1234yf is about 10 times that of R134a refrigerant, which means that the price of modern passenger cars may rise. Since there is no restriction on the use of R134a refrigerant in Korea, most of the refrigerants used in modern times are used, but this refrigerant produces a large amount of CO2.
